i.e., The City of Tempe passing a “quiet zone” for the Union Pacific Rail Road crossings. I noticed the signs when I was driving home from ASU on Tuesday and so today I called my dad (who works for UPRR) to ask him way the deal was.
My dad said said that even though federal law states that the trains have to use their horn (especially in high traffic areas), the City of Tempe is taking over responsibility of fault if any accidents occur because the people in the City of Tempe petitioned a “quiet zone”.
The petition started because the residents near the tempe rail road crossings (where they willingly chose to live, knowing that tracks were nearby) complained that the train safety precaution horns were a nuisance and a disturbance.
I don’t think personal inconveniences should come before safety.
The train crew doesn’t blow the horn for fun, they aren’t being purposely annoying, it isn’t a game. Actually, it’s their job. I may have a personal bias because my dad is an engineer and a conductor, but I don’t want the general public or the UPRR to be put at an increased risk for danger. Especially if the reason is because some people are bothers by train horns at 3 am. Get some damn ear plugs or don’t choose to live by train tracks.
DON’T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE EFFING DR. PEPPER COMMERCIAL THAT I HEARD YESTERDAY. Found here: http://theweek.com/article/index/220181/dr-peppers-not-for-women-ad-campaign-sexist
